The Generative Habitat project began as a critical study of the inefficiencies related the living roof (as seen in the Living Roof prototype project). The result came from the realization that in order to achieve the desired result with Generative Design in Fusion360, I could no longer isolate simply the roof and expect the program to work in it’s highest capacity. This speaks volumes to the overarching benefit of using Generative Design, which is that you are no longer isolating and designing components, but optimizing the whole. This reduces material substantially and performs precisely and excellently, and puts designers in the position to evaluate the questions you are truly trying to answer with the things we design.
